Tropes: Sports romance, forbidden romance, spicy, enemies to lovers and opposites attract.
Introducing your new favourite hockey romance book. I should probably say mine, however I can almost guarantee that you'll feel the same once you read it. Mile High by Liz Tomforde is the first book in the Windy City series, and it follows Stevie Shay and Evan Zanders.
Zanders is a pro hockey player who has been playing up to his "bad boy" media persona for years. Everyone thinks they know the real Evan, however his true self starts to show when he meets Stevie, his new sassy and fiery flight attendant on his team's private plane for the season. Stevie is very aware Zander's reputation, and has no interest in getting

involved with a guy like him. The issue? Zanders can't seem to stay away from Stevie, and Stevie can't seem to stay away from Zanders. As the two continue running into each other, Stevie quickly realises that behind Zanders' cocky exterior, there's a kind and loving guy with a lot of love to give (he just doesn't know it yet).
Soooo, I'm obsessed. I think that's safe to say. There's were so many layers to this book, and so much to love. I do love an occasional slow burn (when it's done well, of course), but once of the reasons that I loved Mile High so much was because there was tension from the start, and the actual relationship elements started pretty early on in the book. It never felt like the story or relationship was dragging, as Stevie and Zanders started more as friends with benefits than realising they had feelings for each other straight away.
Their CHEMISTRY!! It was instant, and I loved that Stevie kept Zanders on his toes throughout the book, as it was clear that Zanders wasn't used to women acting the way that Stevie acted towards him. They both really take their time to build up a strong emotional connection, which was definitely one of the best parts of the book.
Stevie was such a relatable character, and there were so many parts of this book that were super realistic. Throughout the book, we saw more and more of Stevie's insecurities, primarily about her curvy figure and thinking that men wouldn't find her attractive. We learn about her toxic past relationship, which is a primary cause of her insecurities, however, I absolutely loved watching Zanders support Stevie, slowly helping her lower her walls to let him in. It was so beautiful to read, and honestly just instantly made me add Zanders straight onto my list of my favourite book boyfriends.
Enemies to lovers meets forbidden romance? YES PLEASE. This is honestly one of my new favourite series. If you're looking for a hockey romance series, that isn't too heavy on the sport side, but has really great sexual tension and a strong romance story, you will absolutely devour Mile High!
